Our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Triple Threat Top-Up is a dynamic, one-year programme designed for students who have already completed a Level 5 qualification—such as a foundation degree, HND, or equivalent in musical theatre or performing arts. This final-year top-up enables you to achieve a full BA (Hons) degree while fine-tuning your readiness to launch a career in professional performance.

Built for dedicated and driven performers, the course delivers rigorous triple-threat training in acting, singing, and dance, with a strong focus on professional development, public performance, and visibility within the industry.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must have:

A Level 5 qualification in musical theatre or a closely related discipline.
Alternatively, substantial vocational training or relevant professional experience (considered on a case-by-case basis).

The team will be collectively and consistently responsible for your overall development. In your final year you will be introduced to agents, casting directors with a view to professional representation and a direct route to work.

This is a course for performers with career ambitions who are dedicated to a lifetime of performance.

Modules Studied

Auditioning for the Industry
Refine your audition technique through a structured three-month series of mock and live auditions. You'll work with leading industry professionals—including casting directors, agents, and producers—to sharpen your skills, receive targeted feedback, and gain confidence under authentic audition conditions.
Developing the Creative Artist
Define and express your unique artistic identity through devised performance, ensemble collaboration, and creative experimentation. This module supports you in taking risks, exploring your voice, and building versatility as a contemporary theatre-maker.
Advanced Performance Skills
Perform in fully staged musical theatre productions, directed and choreographed by working industry professionals. You’ll apply your triple-threat skills in rehearsal and performance, gaining invaluable experience of professional expectations and ensemble discipline.
Industry Preparation
Build the essential toolkit for a sustainable performance career. This includes agent networking, headshot and CV development, self-promotion, audition strategy, and business acumen tailored to the realities of the modern industry.

This top-up year is more than a qualification—it's your launchpad into the professional world. With focused, performance-led training and real industry engagement, you'll graduate with the confidence, experience, and connections to take the next step in your career.

AGENT SEASON AND MEETINGS

Your third year, usually January to April you will meet a variety of agents from across the UK and perform for them either via a London showcase or private audition, with a view to their representing you for work. You will be invited to meet both in person at the studios and virtually or through theatre performance.

You will perform for them and have an interview / meeting with them. You will begin to make judgments on which agency ‘feels like a good fit’ for you, skills set and and career aspirations. You may have as many as 15 meetings across the season.

PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE

You will perform publicly across your second and third years of study in a variety of productions from Christmas Concerts, Pantomime, Musicals, Musical Revue. cabaret and sometimes new musical theatre work by emerging writers. Our productions are fully produced by industry professionals but also take the form of black box, site specific, corporate, improvised and workshops. You will perform in number one venues such as Theatre Royal, Glasgow, Royal Concert Hall Glasgow as well as smaller venues such as ‘Platform’, ‘Cumbernauld Theatre’, ‘Eastwood Theatre’, small studio spaces, events spaces, churches indeed any space suitable for the nature of the production. The ability to adapt your performance to the space is an important skill.

This course is an intense, practical, industry level training for aspiring professionals. The work is challenging and creative, like the industry you hope to enter. At the end of the course, you will be a credible, creative artist with excellent triple threat skills with a broad knowledge of the industry and ready to work.

Subjects for study; acting methodologies / practitioners, acting from text, creating and devising, acting through song, private weekly singing lesson, jazz, ballet, commercial dance, tap, contextual studies, physical theatre, voice, ensemble singing, anatomy and physiology, music theory, sight-singing, performance styles, score interpretation, music theory, sight-reading, phonetics, repertoire class, audition preparation, industry masterclasses and introduction to agents, casting directors.

GAMTA's Musical Theatre Course is accredited by the University of West London for delivery of the BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre. The University of West London is the awarding body for the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course, taught at GAMTA.

Eligible students from UK & Ireland have access to Student Tuition Fee loans via Finance England, Scotland (SAAS), Wales and Northern Ireland, covering £6,185 (non means tested) per year towards fees. Eligible students will also have access to Maintenance loans (means tested) per year towards maintenance costs.

If you're an Irish national living in the UK or Ireland, your right to study and access benefits and services will be preserved on a reciprocal basis for UK and Irish nationals under the Common Travel Area arrangement.

In general, you'll continue to be required to meet the same criteria as UK nationals to be eligible for UK fees and funding.

GAMTA applications and auditions open in October each year and we offer places from October.

Naturally, as the year progresses, our spaces become limited with the likelihood of your being offered a place decreasing. However, it is important that you feel confident at audition, which is why our largest intake is between December and April. Audition as soon as you feel competent and prepared. The sooner the better.

The annual Enrichment Fee of £600 contributes towards a range of activities, experiences, and professional development opportunities that sit alongside the core curriculium and are designed to enhance the overall student experience at GAMTA.
These opportunities provide valuable experiences, and practical training that support students' development as performing arts professionals;
The Enrichment Fee contributes towards:
Threatre visits and ticket costs, with a commitment to providing at least one threatre visit per term
Masterclasses delivered by visiting industry professionals and academics
Public performances and productions
Additional enrichment activities and professional development opportunities throughout the academic year
The Enrichment Fee is entirely optional and is not required as part of the academic programme.
Should any planned enrichment activities or events be cancelled or not proceed, the relevant proportion of the fee attributable to those activities will be refunded to participating students.

FUNDING YOUR COURSE

HOW DO I PAY FOR MY COURSE?

You apply for a Tuition Fee Loan and a Maintenance Loan to pay for your fees and help with living etc. What you can borrow for the Maintenance Loan depends on your annual household income**, but the minimum you should receive is £8400 per year.

HOW AND WHEN DO I APPLY?

You cannot apply to until 1st April when they open for applications, however you can go online and create a profile in advance.

HOW MUCH CAN I RECEIVE?

Tuition Fee Loan: £6,525

All applications for Maintenance Loan are means tested which means that the amount you can borrow depends on your annual household income*. Whilst you should apply to understand the amount you will receive, here is a guide.

If annual household income is less than £21k: you may receive up to £11,400

If annual household income is between £21k - £24k: you may receive up to £10,400

If annual household income is between £24k - £34k: you may receive up to £9,900

If annual household income is more than that £34k: You may receive £8,400

Balance to pay by you = £2,695

The remaining £2,695 can be paid in 12 monthly instalments of £224.58 or you may use your Maintenance Loan (if awarded) to pay off remaining balance

Candidates with strong practical skills and previous dance, acting, singing training or candidates who have an unconventional academic background will be considered on their own merit. Also, a proven commitment to training (RAD, ISTD, Trinity, LAMDA. NC, NPA) is helpful as well as a history of technique classes and/or performance.
